About Us

In response to the opportunity to provide quality pre-primary education for under-resourced communities, Gracefields Church opened an ECD facility on the edge of Fish Hoek, close to both Masiphumelele and Ocean View. In January 2012, twenty children aged 3-4 from disadvantaged backgrounds became the first class of iThemba School.

iThemba now has 60 children aged 3-6 years divided between 3 classes. We are an independent school, registered with the Western Cape Education Department and the Department of Social Development. Our curriculums are age-appropriate and prepare the children for the next grade.

Volunteers enrich the school with small group reading, assisting teachers, maintaining the property and providing fun-filled monthly birthday celebrations.

iThemba School is run by a team of qualified teachers, mostly from Masiphumelele. We are committed to staff training and development and providing staff with opportunities to access professional qualifications relevant to their work.

We are in the process of developing a donor-based primary school for our pre-schoolers to feed into.
