This second term for iThemba School has been filled with fun, hard work, play and challenges. A big thank you, to all our sponsors and donors for making this possible.
REGISTRATION
Our great news is that finally after three years of forms, phone calls and inspections, iThemba is now a registered ECD with the Department of Social Development. Our next step is registration with the Education Department in order to get support for the CAPS programme that is being used in the Grade R class.
PROGRAMMES AND ASSESSMENTS
Jean has effectively created programmes that are implemented in each of our classes, the Busy Bees (4-5 years) and the Grade R Chameleons (5-6 years). Assessments were done this term and the children are all showing improvement in their English and learning areas. It is a pleasure to see them arrive in the morning happy and eager to be here.
On the final Sunday of this term, the iThemba children sang in church and afterwards the parents stayed for refreshments and to collect their children’s reports. The staff were able to meet and chat with the moms and the one dad! who attended.
THEMES
During our theme of “People who serve???, the Fire Department and the CMR Ambulance visited the school and taught the children safety and how to get assistance. While the building of the new hall is taking place, the children are being taken to the sports fields and the park on a regular basis .
Jean and Ncumisa were invited to attend a talk on “High Five -Learning Ready??? presented by the Principal of Sun Valley Primary School. This was followed by an event opened to all families in our community. Other staff and parents from iThemba attended this very informative presentation. It was great to see so many of our parents there.
WRIGGLE AND RHYME
A special thank you to Nicky and Wriggle and Rhyme for coming each week to present music and movement in such a fun way to the children. The time that they and the other volunteers give is greatly appreciated and the school would not be able to function so effectively without all this extra help.
Our challenge this term and next term will be to cope with the building of the new hall. This has taken away our back play area and is confining the children’s space which has made them unsettled and very active. We ask for your prayers in this area that it will not take too long to get the hall built and the children will be more settled next term with the new arrangements.
SUSTAINABLE GARDEN
Our sustainable garden has unfortunately been put on hold for the time being until we can get more support and secure the garden plots from active little feet.
