2017 begins…
The first few months of the school year have flown by, which is probably exactly what we said this time last year! It has been a busy start to the year, and we are all starting to feel ready for a little rest at the end of term.
What’s new?
We have a 14 new children in our youngest class, the Sunflowers, as well as a number of other new faces in both Busy Bees and Chameleons to bring us up to our full complement of 60 children. Teacher Edith has done a wonderful job of settling the new little ones in to school routine. She has been joined by a new assistant, Aza, as a replacement for Ziyanda who decided not to return after her maternity leave. Teacher Ncumisa is once again providing our Chameleons with an excellent launchpad into Grade 1 next year. Chrishiance continues to provide help across the classes and around the school, whilst in the kitchen Lungi keeps everyone happy with the delicious meals she cooks, helped by Thandi. We are grateful to God for the staff team we have.
We also have new faces in the office with Beth and Linden providing administrative support in the mornings and afternoons, which has boosted the capacity and efficiency of the office.
The school also has some new equipment or replacements for old and battered items, thanks to some very generous gifts. We have been able to buy some new mattresses for sleep time, new teaching resources, art materials, CD
players and carpet… to name but a few things. We managed to make these gifts stretch a very long way!
Our small army of volunteers continue to enrich the life of the school in many ways… music, singing, reading and practical help such as fixing leaking pipes and broken windows.
Heather and Sharon from Wriggle and Rhyme continue to come in each week to help the children learn and grow through music and movement. The sound of singing echoing through the building is such a joy!
